What is Sesali ?

Sesali (Service Européen de SAnté en LIgne, or European e-Health Service) sets out the foundation for the continuity of healthcare across Europe. The service Sesali.fr enables French health professionals to access the medical summary of any EU patient in a secure, structured way – and in their own language.

One of the main goals of this initiative is to increase the free circulation of patients, health professionals and health data in the European Union, as set out in the EU Directive on cross-border healthcare.

This service is an answer to the EU’s wish to guarantee the best possible treatment for patients residing in the EU, beyond the borders of their country of residence, while respecting the GDPR guidelines.

There are 2 ways to log into the Sesali service:

  • Via the website Sesali.fr using your Pro Santé Connect identifiers to log in;
  • On the Sesali API platform: this platform enables you to connect your health software directly to Sesali in order to request cross-border data.

The eHealth agency is actively working towards expending the Sesali network. We are here to guide you through the steps you need to follow to integrate the service into your software developments.

Discover and use the Sesali API

Integrating the API Sesali enables your software to access European patients’ health data.

The service sends out a request for cross-border data collection to obtain the European equivalent of a patient’s medical summary. It consists of information important to the patient’s care, including:

  • Allergies and undesirable side effects to medication
  • Ongoing conditions and treatments;
  • Past treatments history;
  • Pre-existing medical condition or surgical history;
  • Vaccination summary.

Your digital solution must meet end-to-end interoperability criteria, from the source data of the patient to your professional software (IHE XCP transactions, XCA, CDA R2 N1 and N3 files, SAML token).

Healthcare workers may log into Sesalia using their own software, without having to log in again on a web portal. Please note that in order to do install Sesali via the API platform,you must already have integrated Pro Santé Connect into your system.

The service is only available for foreign patients that meet the following criteria:

  • the patient must come from an EU country providing the Sesali service;
  • the patient must have activated the service (depending on their country);
  • the patient must have a medical summary in file in their country’s systems.

Access to the service may be restricted for the following reasons:

  • you do not specialise in occupational medicine
  • you work for a private insurance company
  • you no longer practise
  • your CPS card has expired or been revoked
  • your web browser is not compatible
  • you are using a mobile appliance (smartphone or tablet)
  • you are not included in the following list of health professionals:
    • general practitioners and specialists (radiologists, biologists, independent, employee, Samu-Emergencies-C.15, interns)
    • biological pharmacists and interns
    • pharmacists in dispensaries or hospitals
    • dental surgeon, interns
    • midwives
    • nurses
    • physical therapist
    • pedicure-podiatrists
    • speech therapists
    • ergotherapists, psychomotor specialists, orthopists, dieticians
    • medical radiologists
